Bonnaroo Music Festival Tickets – Don’t Miss These Artists in 2010
Flip a coin, draw straws among your friends or guess a number-sooner or later, music festival attendees have to resort to these strategies and figure out which bands they want to see. Usually, headliners are an easy pick. There aren’t as many of them, and they’re usually popular enough that you’ll find more people in your group willing to see them. What gets tricky is choosing who to see from the smaller acts at the festival.
In an effort to help you decide, we’ve put together a cheat sheet of some of the hottest non-headlining acts that will be at Bonnaroo this year. Make sure you don’t miss out when they hit the stage.
Neon Indian: You don’t think of Provo, Utah, as being a place where the sounds of the future come from. That’s an assumption you’ll have to change. Neon Indian, a band from Provo, has earned a number of comparisons to the Killers, who they have opened for before. But Indian offers up a much dreamier, synth-driven sound. It’s altogether less pop, but still has a shimmery gloss to it that ensures this band will be drawing big crowds in the near future. If you like electronic music that leans more on the atmospheric side of things, then you had better check out Neon Indian when they kick off their set at this year’s Bonnaroo Music Festival.
The xx: London-based band the xx has been earning rave reviews in the blogosphere, and they’ve cultivated a pretty strong fan base in the past six months or so. Their music is also dreamy and based in electronica, but they definitely have one foot planted in rock, as well. Citing bands like Hot Chip and Four-Tet as their influences, their music has drawn a lot of fans of both those bands. This is definitely an act that is going to have a big audience in front of their stage at Bonnaroo, so get there early.
Japandroids: How much noise can two men make? Japandroids is here to help you answer that question. With their debut album, Post-Nothing, the band shot to the top of many 2009 best of the year lists. Their music is raw, angry and coiled up tight with energy. Delivering punky anthems that surge with a rebellious, if vulnerable, teenage spirit, this duo is undoubtedly one of the best discoveries to come out of the slew of releases last year.
Ingrid Michaelson: If you’re a fan of television shows like Grey’s Anatomy and One Tree Hill, then you might already be familiar with the soulful, piano-driven ballads of Ingrid Michaelson. The talented singer-songwriter has been steadily releasing records since 2005, all of them rated highly by critics. In 2009, she offered up a fresh release called Everybody that has quite appropriately garnered fans among…well, everybody. Catch her at the festival and you’re sure to enjoy the show.
That’s it for our list. Mark down those names, and make sure you have your Bonnaroo Music Festival tickets tickets from StubHub.

Nu Nation Project $5.04 For a man who puts his trust in God, Kirk Franklin certainly seems defensive on the opening “interlude” of Nu Nation Project, which depicts criticism of his controversial hip-hop-tinged gospel as a court trial complete with urgent reporters outside the courthouse. The message, fortunately, quickly moves from Franklin’s own problems to those of the world–which, notably, the star refuses to ignore … |

Best of Concord Years $13.44 This 22-track retrospective represents well the 20 albums Gene Harris made for Concord Records over 14 years. The barrelhouse rocking pianist was obviously getting better with age, as one of his best discs was his last, Alley Cats (1999), made shortly before his death and represented here by a cover of the Crusaders’ classic “Put It Where You Want It.” The track is very indicative of the rest of t… |
