What to get for Christmas besides gift baskets?    by Arth Sabi

With Christmas just around the corner the annual question “Oh my God, what to buy?” pops up in people’s minds. It makes them run around overcrowded malls aimlessly, then go home and search for keywords like “unusual presents” on eBay and “last minute gift idea for girlfriend” on Google. That kind of panic is not really in line with the Christmas spirit and can easily be avoided by following a few helpful guidelines.

What to get for Christmas besides gift baskets?

Get a great present while online shopping. Find Christmas gifts that are personalized gifts for men and women. Find unique gifts for dad or mom. Find the best presents browsing through Christmas gift ideas for Christmas presents. Give your loved ones gift vouchers and find unusual gifts in an online gift shops. Check online gift catalogs! The best Christmas gifts are unique Christmas gifts. The best Christmas present and Xmas gift ideas can be online gifts. So find presents online, get unique present ideas for golf gifts or Christmas food gifts. The most unique gifts are: a personalized gift or a gift item from Digital Presents. Get Xmas presents and special gifts, last minute gift ideas, online gift vouchers and online gift certificates in the Digital Presents online store.

How to find the perfect present for everyone?

Just think about the people you want to give special and unique presents to. What do they like doing? What are their interests? Do they love art or music and would like to be more active in these fields? Would they like to learn some new skills, sports or languages? What would contribute most to their personal development? What teaches them something valuable or inspires them? Think out of the box. It’s usually not material things that are most beneficial to people. It’s rather activities, quality time spent with their loved ones or a new skill that they acquire. Instead of something pretty to look at get something fun to do. Get them vouchers for activities like painting, making sushi, diving or learning languages. Those things are a lot better than another set of perfumed candles.

What to give?

Giving presents is really a difficult thing especially when most people have everything they need anyway. The solution might be to get them something that contributes to their personal development instead of some material things that just catch dust in their homes.

Give knowledge!

People don’t want to own more pretty things to look at – they want to get to know the world and acquire more skills! And even if they don’t have enough time to take evening classes or even go back to college – in times of web 2.0 it is easy and fun to learn something new from your own home. All you need is a computer, some motivation and time.

A great present is for example a Spanish Course that they always wanted to take but never had the time for. Now they can easily do it from their own home at their own pace without missing out on personal tutoring and great instruction methods!

With no fewer than eight couples vying for our attention, Love Actually is like the Boston Marathon of romantic comedies, and everybody wins. Jesus Christ/A Marigny Xmas

Jesus Christ/A Marigny Xmas

$8.48

John Ralston (Vagrant Records) releases two alternate universe classics just in time for the Christmas Holidays. “Jesus Christ” may be the most daring A-side we have ever heard with its drones, screeches & clanging recalling the glory days of the Velvet Underground. “A Marigny Xmas” is an alarmingly gorgeous soft & tender swaying strum-drilled nugget: A true New Orleans heart breaker. Both feature the downright spectacular rhythm section of bassist Dan Bonebrake and drummer Deric (no relation to Charles) Dickens. 7″ Limited to 300 Christmas colored copies: 150 transparent red & 150 opaque white.

Merry Xmas! [Sony]

Merry Xmas! [Sony]

$27.99

An alternative to the dominant Now That’s What I Call Christmas! series, Sony compilation Merry Xmas! gathers 80 of the most popular contemporary festive tracks, with number ones from Band Aid, Slade, and Shakin’ Stevens; novelty hits from Bo Selecta and the Wombles; and traditional seasonal favorites from Johnny Mathis, Frank Sinatra, and Andy Williams. The first three pop-heavy discs feature iconic holiday songs from Mariah Carey (“All I Want for Christmas Is You”), Wham! (“Last Christmas”), and Bing Crosby (“White Christmas”) alongside less familiar additions from established artists Toni Braxton, Lady Gaga, and Christina Aguilera and cover versions of festive classics (Girls Aloud’s “I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday,” Ronan Keating and Máire Brennan’s “Fairytale of New York”). In an attempt to appeal to older audiences, the fourth disc focuses on easy listening festive material from Cliff Richard, Tony Bennett, and Doris Day alongside four carols performed by the Choir of Trinity College, Cambridge. Highlights include East 17′s sleigh-bell ballad “Stay Another Day,” Brenda Lee’s joyous “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” and Sarah McLachlan’s beautifully understated “Wintersong.” With contributions from boy bands (*NSYNC, Westlife), soul singers (Al Green, Luther Vandross), classic rock acts (T. Rex, Status Quo), singer/songwriters (Maria Mena, Dido), and classical crossover artists (the Priests, G4), and featuring tracks recorded from 1941 (Glenn Miller’s “When You Wish Upon a Star”) right up to 2010 (the Great British Barbershop Boys’ rendition of Mud’s “Lonely This Christmas”), Merry Xmas! is a comprehensive and generation-spanning collection that provides the perfect accompaniment for anyone wanting to get into the festive spirit. ~ Jon O’Brien, Rovi
